The bookmarks interface of Chrome and Firefox is quite confusing. So, you tend to delete things by mistake. However, it is very easy to restore the deleted bookmarksin Chrome and Firefox. Firefox has made it a built-in feature but you need to dig a lot of folders in Chrome for restoring.

If you have deleted some bookmarks in Chrome by mistake and Chrome has not been restarted more than twice, your are in luck. Your bookmarks are automatically backed up in Chrome. Therefore, you can find the missing bookmarks in the backup. But how will you restore these bookmarks?

Go to : C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default in the Explorer. You must set the Explorer to show the hidden folders. Else, it will not display AppData. Simply copy-paste the path into Explorer. The ‘USERNAME’ has to be replaced with your username. This folder contains two files: Bookmarks.bak and Bookmarks. Bookmarks.bak is the actual backup you are looking for while Bookmarks comprises of your existing bookmarks. Check the date of Bookmarks.bak to ensure that the backup was made before the bookmarks were deleted. Replace the name ‘Bookmarks’ to ‘Bookmarks.old’. Once it is done, change the name of Bookmarks.bak to Bookmarks. It is now the main bookmarks file. While changing the names, you will get a warning from Windows that you may lose your file forever. It will ask you if you want to proceed further. Click on ‘Yes’. Start your Chrome again. This will bring back all your old bookmarks. It is important to mention that if certain bookmarks are changed or added after the deletion, the restoring of the backup will make them non-functional.
Firefox offers a very easy method to restore the bookmarks that are deleted by mistake. If Firefox has been restarted many times, this method can still work very effectively. Your bookmarks are automatically backed up by Firefox. Firefox saves the previous 10 backups whereas Chrome saves only one. There is no need to look into various folders and change their names. The interface of Firefox is fully functional and these features are built into it. Go to Firefox menu and choose Bookmarks> Show All Bookmarks. Or simply press CTRL+SHIFT+B. Go to the bookmarks library windows and select ‘Import & Backup’> ‘Restore’. Now choose the backup that has to be restored. You must select the latest backup before the bookmarks were deleted. If you are restoring the bookmarks soon after their deletion, choose the latest backup. If you are doing it after many days, select an older one. You will receive a warning from Firefox that the current bookmarks will be replaced by restoring the old bookmarks. You will lose any changes you have made after deleting the bookmarks accidentally. Simply click on OK. This will immediately bring a change. You will get back all the lost bookmarks. There is no need to restart the Firefox.
